Our Interview with Nani Welch Keli’iho’omalu:
Her Favorite Spots in Hawaii

  1. What are your favorite places to eat in Hawaii? Any hidden gems or must-try dishes?

Nani: Moon & Turtle on Hawai’i Island is my absolute favorite. Mark and Soni are incredible at working with local ingredients. It’s such a unique, lovely experience every time I visit!

  1. As a local surfer, where are the best spots to catch waves in Hawaii? Any tips for beginners?

Nani: Waikīkī has one of the mellowest and friendliest waves you can find. My biggest piece of advice is to never underestimate the ocean. Even on the smallest days, the ocean is such a powerful force; you definitely need to be mindful of your surroundings and those around you. And make sure to enter these spaces with respect!

  1. Where do you like to hang out and relax in Hawaii? Any favorite beaches, parks, or local spots?

Nani: When I’m in Honolulu, I love to go to Kaimanas. On Hawaiʻi Island, you’ll find me at Kaunaʻoa Beach.

  1. What do you love about Eimeo? How does it reflect the spirit of Hawaii and your personal style?

Nani: I love how lightweight the pieces are. In the tropical heat, flowy and breathable clothing is a must. I also love how regal the dresses make me feel!

  1. From the Eimeo collection, which dress or outfit is your favorite and why? How would you style it?

Nani: I’ve been a fan of Eimeo for years and I always had my eye on the Matahari Maxi Dress. It’s exactly what I picture when I imagine the Tahitian version of a Muʻumuʻu. Last September, I was finally able to get my hands on the dress in red and I’m obsessed!

  1. Can you share a memorable local experience or tradition in Hawaii that visitors might not know about but should definitely experience?

Nani: If you come to Hawaiʻi Island, Volcano National Park is so special. My ʻohana is from Kalapana where the volcano is still active within our community. The National Park does a great job educating visitors about the geological wonder we have on our island while also teaching about the cultural significance of the volcano and surrounding areas. I try to pay a visit whenever I can!
