After a difficult separation, her mother found herself facing emotional and financial hardships while living alone in their isolated valley. Eva came with an idea—a project that would provide not just for her mother, but also allow her to showcase her incredible lifestyle and passion for hospitality. “I wanted to create something that could merge her needs with her passions,” Eva shares with a warm smile. And so, their guest house was born, where her mother’s delightful vegan cooking and philosophy would mingle beautifully with the stunning surroundings. What began as a daughter’s love evolved into a unique hospitality concept centered around genuine connection and holistic well-being.
Eva’s mother’s approach to food is deeply rooted in her belief about its impact on health. Having experienced cancer, she became acutely aware of the importance of providing her body with pure and healthy food she would grow in her garden. Nature became the only reliable resource for her and plays a center role in her lifestyle.

But the meaning of ‘new’ runs deeper,” Eva explains. “In Polynesian, ‘niu’ refers to the coconut tree, but it also evokes the concept of a foundation or base in Tahitian. This is what I want people to feel when they come to The NIU Shack—a return to the essence, a reconnection with what truly matters.” This reflection beautifully captures the spirit of The NIU Shack—a sanctuary characterized by simplicity, authenticity, and a profound connection to nature and cultural heritage.
